We were honored to learn about this program in a two part series!
We visited the Western Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center in St. Joseph Missouri to learn about Puppies for Parole.
This program temporarily places dogs from abusive or neglectful backgrounds with inmates. Each dogs lives with his or her inmate for 24 hours a day, so he or she can bond with humans, as well as learn some basic training.
After training with the inmates is complete, the dogs are picked up Friends of the Animal Shelter and placed in forever homes!
The inmates are sad when their dogs leave. But new dogs are always coming in who need training and compassion. This program benefits dogs, inmates, and adopters! It's a win for everyone : )
